Hi Guy, Since it was me who suggested this section be added, let me be the first to post in it.

My Fairmont story started quite by accident, let me explain.

I have always hankered after a V8 car after learning to drive in my dads 73 Ranchero back when I was just 13, so after I got settled in my house and bought my bike, I started looking. Originally a wanted a 70 Fairlane as a guy I knew had one in high school and I thought it was the coolest machine out there. I looked at dozens of Fairlanes and all of them seemed to be used as boat launching vehicles ( the back half was soooooo rusted).

I had almost given up when i was speaking to a buddy of mine , Eugene, said that there was one he knew of in good condition for sale, and I should call. I called up Simon and was told that no, it was a Fairmont GT, so I asked if it had a V8 in there and then not knowing too much about the history of the breed, said ,"!! Ill take it !!". When I finally got to see it, it was a dream come true. I wont tell you what I paid for it but it was an absolute STEAL. I now am a proud owner of a '70 GT in silver , Black vinyl roof , Red interior and a 2v auto. (-- Question -- , not sure on the year, as it is a XW with a offset hood scoop, not a shaker.) I also have been told by a geezer at the gas station that it was owned by the chairman of the Cape Caravan Club. But otherwise it is 100% stock.

I have spent some money on her doing the necessary - Suspension and brakes - and also have fitted some 17" alloys to update the look somewhat, although I might not keep them on and go back to the steelies and hubcaps.

I did some more research on the GT , and have fallen more and more in love with it as time has gone by. I also bought a '70 Cougar that is now for sale so I can spend a bit'o'cash on the GT. I hope to post some pics of my ride soon, but as the car is now standing with a blown head gasket I will have to fix that first.

My dream is to try and have the last sliver GT left in S.A. , And it looks possible , as everybody else is send theirs back to its homeland.

Anyway, I will update you in the relevant forum when I have time and pics and info to share.

See you on the roads.............................................................

Rory,

Well done & great intro.

You have a 1970 XW GT by the sounds in Silverfox. What a great combo & I think its great that you want to be one of the few owners to have a XWGT Fairmont still in RSA.

Please show us all some photos in the Post your ride section.
And don't forget to share your vin details with me so I can add them to my registry.

Look forward to your post & welcome.

By the way good Idea on the intro section.

Hi Rory. Welcome to forum. Would love to see your GT. I'm also the proud owner of a XWGT, colour Wimbleton White. Not many XW's left in South Africa.
Once again welcome!
