Well heres where I'm up to at this present moment.
Had my auto electrician out to spend some time sorting my electrics over the last couple of days, got the driving lights fitted, thanks 'coupeman' for the info on fitting, as it turned out once the washers are in and its tightened theres not the gap I thought, had to repaint one reflector as it was a bit rusty, sanded etch primed then primer filler, rubbed with 800 wet and then the you-beaut chrome sparay I've used on the dash, also to redo the chrome on doortrims and also around woodgrain on dash, not quite as good as real plastic chrome but ok for my purposes and budget.
One of the genuine raised letter hella lenses had a stone hit and the small piece of glass was inside the light(presume this is why the reflector rusted) got some plumbers silicone and glued the bit back in and smoothed it to make it waterproof, a couple of new 100watt H3 bulbs and put em together, the sparky wired em in using the dash switch that was in my bits n' pieces jar, and they work a treat. Got 4 new courtesy light switches wired in and had to run a new wire for the roof centre courtesy light( whoever fitted the roof lining omitted the wire), the ones in the C pillars work fine too, which is a bonus.
My fake Bosch/Email is now all wired up with a dash warning light and the sparky added in a fusible link into the system near the battery as he said theres no protection to stop things from burning out, dont really understand but trust his judgement.
I relieved my Failane of its 'HI' note horn and then hammered a spare bracket into the other direction to make a twin horn mount as per original and the horns are both wired in and working, but got em on a dash switch instead of the rimblow setup as I don't want to be accidentally blowing the horn.
The temp gauge I'm not sure on as I haven't run the engine long enough to make it respond as I'd die from carbon monoxide if I did inside a closed shed, but the oil is showing 30lb in the on position and over a 100lb running going by the factory gauge,, But had a capilliary on it to run the cam in and that was showing 70lb . Fuel shows full all the time. My auto sparky recommended a local instrument repairer who tells me there's a voltage regulator inside the temp gauge that restricts the voltage thru the gauges to 5 volts, he also said if that regulator is crook then the gauges will read wild and will possibly be damaged so its wait and see on them as I'm waiting for him to ring me when he has them apart for an assesment( hope it dont turn out too eXey).
Had a new windscreen fitted this morning, they dont use the old heat-kits anymore, Sikaflex is the go.
The metal inside the freshly revealed window aperture was all nice and rustfree, so no dramas there, suppose its time to sort out my best stainless window trims now, and refit the scuttle panel after I clean all the old cutting compound out that got in there when I buffed the new paint, I'll spray some fishoil down there too now.And follow it up later with Tectyl.
Cant put the dash back in now till I get my gauge cluster back, hopefully working.
I'm an expert at dash removal and refitting now as I've done it a few times over the last week and its a helluva lot easier minus the steering wheel and with the column dropped a bit.
While I'm waiting for the dash bits, I'm gonna clean up the globe wheels I got off ebay and squirt some deep argent on em and see what they look like on the car, theyre highlighted gold as I bought em and if I was using a gold stripe Id keep em gold but I prefer the black stripe (gotta find a good stripe man), (still had no reply on here from anyone as to correct stripe placement below bodyline, everyone seems to place em right on the line but the workshop manual says .2 below the contour line)......descisions..descisions!
Finish fitting up the interior, weld the exhaust to the collectors, get the dash back in, freshen up the wheel cylinders linings , calipers and pads, skim the discs and repack the bearings, some new brake hoses , and a check of the front end and wheel alignment and things should be about ready for blast-off!
More pix to follow, will post em in Boxy's new photo update thread,(maybe that's where this shoulda gone)
OK back to work!
Chris.

Busy boy, well done .I wouldnt even be able to type that much!

What sort of stripes you after?Have a signwriter mate if your stuck could make up custom stripes.
I always wanted to do black reflective, when I had my black car.

Can put chrome mylar tape on door trims then clear coat.Even on dash if you want.Signwriters supply shop has rolls in various widths.Yell out if your stuck.

You can get driving light reflectors chromed to.

Keep up the good work.IW

Thanks fellas, I do enjoy writing, you probably noticed hey,
stripes I got, yr standard XYGT sidestripe 351GT plus the roo, in black.
Mylar tape, may look into that but for now the paint will do.

My work on my own car is in spurts, between other paying jobs, and my kids, and fraternising with the opposite sex,and motorbike riding of course.

just had a call from the instrument specialist, the regulator inside the temp gauge was melted causing damage to all the other gauges, he can rewind them and fit another regulator for less than I imagined. He's onto it now.

In my car the regulator was also fried, I fitted a solid state one and all the gauges work correctly now - its actually an easy fix if the other gauges didint get damaged.

Got a call from the instrument man, originally it was "wont get much change out of $300"..............today.."It'll be $240 cos two the oil and fuel weren't too bad"

A nice surprise, he fitted a 'solid state' regulator behind the temp gauge that can fail and damage the gauges like the original did, it's quite large, roughly a business card by half inch thick, but light in weight and easily cable-tied to something behind the dash, I'll work it out when I fit it.
Decided to get my odometer set to zero, and lucky I did as he found the internals of the speedo frozen from lack of use, explained that the grease used inside them 40 years ago turns to 'shellac' which acts like glue.
High probability of a broken speedo cable and possibly more damage had I just fitted it as is.
Another 80 bucks so only 20 over the original quote for the triple gauges so I'm happy,
gonna fit it up today.
Also I got some later alloy calipers(xf I think) sitting on a shelf, reckon I should
use em???
