Well... coped a ripper of a storm on Saturday.

Knew there was bad weather coming but it took us all by surprise. I guess a little bit like Black Saturday, knew it was there but didn't realise the speed and furocity of the hail, wind and rain. All the boys were around to finish off this Eleanor Mustang project I've been working on and a few had there Mustangs with them. We had already put all the tools under cover due to some light rain and were about have a lunch break when it hit, it was pandemonium as tools / welders / work benches were pushed out of the way to try and get the rest of the Mustangs under cover. We all had welt marks over our bodies after being pounded by the hail, I had two hail stones hit me in the head and almost drop me. One of my mates was covering his head with his hand and coped one which broke his index finger. In the end we had 4 hail damaged Mustangs and 5 newer model cars damaged. The Eleanor was safe thank god as we had to ship it to Tassie on that Saturday night. Haven't been able to check the GT yet but the body already needed some panel beating, just didn't think I'd be using ice to do it :?

scary stuff

anyone remember the big hailstorm(s) that hit sydney back in '99?

i was working at a smash repair shop in perth & all the holden dealers were buying up brand new VT commodores that were hail damaged & freighting them over to WA. we were replacing the smashed windows, bonnets & bootlids then just filling up the massive dents in the turrets so they could be sold as "demonstrators"

the damage looked like cricket balls had been thrown all over the cars.

sure do remember that night in Sydney, I was on night shift at the airport, not only did it wreck all our cars that night, but you should have seen the damage to planes, well kept us busy that night not to mention the next few weeks...

GT is good and clean after quarantine made me clean it again. Drove it from quarantine cleaning station to where it is now in the pictures. haven't touched it since, haven't even checked for hail damage yet.

It started up 1st go from the docks and was all good driving it to where it is now. Will get back to it maybe next weekend.

My 94 model Fairmont Ghia has hail damage to the bonnet, boot, roof, and front left guard as well as the rear pillars, will contact Shannons in the next few days as I'm sure they are quite busy at the moment dealing with many cases.

Any of you other Melb. boys cop any damage ???

Sorry to hear of the damage. Hopefully the GT will be OK as the metal is considerably thicker than the new cars.
No change of getting under roof parking for the GT?

J1,
I had an old HG ute that was parked at my parents house in Glen Waverley.
My father called me that day and asked if I needed the glass from the car,I was parting it out,but then he informed me that the ute had suffered very bad panel damage and all the glass broken! :(
His VK Commodore faired even worse and to make matters worse again his ceiling fell in due to water leaking from broken roof tiles.
No one injured which is the main thing.
I would have been really pissed off if my GT and SS were caught in the hailstorm but they were safely under cover. :-)
Cheers Clint

The GT's back in GW now Clint,

no hail damage... maybe two spots but the body was pretty rough anyway.

Think I was protected by the tree behind it where it was parked as it was coming in from the NW. This all happened out in St Albans.

Well the Fairmont Ghia was written off by Shannons on Friday.
14 years of service and 310,000 Klm's of fine driving, will miss it, was a nice car.

Out with the Faimont Ghia and in with the Fairmont GT.
